The meeting began at 1:08 p.m. A prayer by Joe Incandela was followed by the approval of the minutes from the June 25th meeting. Joanne Snow presented the announcements; the only announcement was a thank you to the committee for their hard work. The committee accepted the LO2 sub-outcomes with one correction. The sub-outcomes for LO3 were distributed to the members.

The members then formed small groups to revise the sub-outcomes of LO1 as discussed by the committee the previous week. A large group discussion followed and consensus was reached (modulo wordsmithing) on the sub-outcomes related to the formation of human identities, the development and functioning of diverse cultures and social groupings, the practice of creative artistry, the multifaceted nature of religion and the Catholic tradition, and the intricate workings of the natural world. We were careful to phrase the sub-outcomes in language that would describe a measurable outcome. Addressed in the small groups as well were the ability to look at issues from multiple perspectives and making connections across disparate settings and areas of study. These sub-outcomes will be sent to the full committee. Laura Haigwood kindly volunteered to wordsmith the sub-outcomes corresponding to the formation of human identities; the development and functioning of diverse cultures and social groupings; the practice of creative artistry; the ability to look at issues from multiple perspectives, recognizing the effect that differences in areas such as gender, religion, values, culture, and privilege can have on the ways people interpret and act in the world; and the ability to make connections across disparate settings and areas of study. Charlie Peltier will work on the sub-outcomes related to the multifaceted nature of religion and the Catholic tradition as well as the intricate workings of the natural world. A few design issues related to the sub-outcomes were discussed. Laura plans to have the “wordsmithed” document ready for circulation to the entire committee by Monday, July 7th. Committee members will have the opportunity to send comments on the sub-outcomes to Joanne Snow.
