April 25, 2008 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting

Minutes from 4/11 were approved.
I. Discussion of GenEd Advisory Board
Dean Fleming led a conversation on the need for a GenEd Advisory Board. Topics we discussed:
- The Advisory Board would be developed while GenEd Curriculum is in development. The AB would deal with tricky questions that our committee may not be able to answer.
- The Advisory Board could develop governance issues, e.g. bylaws for a permanent GenEd Curriculum Committee.
- Instead of an advisory board, we could develop an “implementation committee,” use “consultants,” or a “Governance Design Team.” We agreed that this last option seems to be the best.
II. We discussed how Design Team 3 will be constituted
We discussed whether DT 3 should be constituted as the other two DTs or if the full Ad hoc GenEd committee should be part of it. Dean Fleming recommended that we should have as much representation from across campus as possible in DT 3. We will continue this discussion over email.
