June 11, 2007 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting

Present
:
Chris Cobb, Janet Fore, Kitty Green, Joe Incandela, Nancy Nekvasil, Daniel Party, Charlie Peltier, Patti Sayre

Chris Cobb shared the products brought back from the AAC&U conference in Rhode Island. These products reflect approximately 120 hours of work, attending workshops and reflecting during team time. Chris went into detail with the visual that represented our shared poster. Discussion took place around this poster relative to the elements represented on the poster. We discussed that Learning Communities would be easier than tandems to schedule and that some students are already in cohorts, of a sort. We agreed that by looking at the entire 4 year experience, rather than just General Education, that all involved would have a much greater sense of an intentional education.

This conversation turned to what we hoped to accomplish this summer. The group determined it wanted to articulate learning outcomes for the 4 year Saint Mary's College experience before focusing on model selection. For the next meeting (10 a.m. Friday, June 15), each of us will "mine" the models to tease out learning outcomes.

We then focused on results of the faculty survey taken at the end of the semester. We were generally pleased with the number of responses. It is our intent to continue looking at the survey results as we talk about the models in light of learner outcomes.
