September 8, 2008 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting
Present: Chris Cobb, Janet Fore, Kitty Green, Joe Incandela, Nancy Nekvasil, Charlie Peltier
We initially identified three priorities for our work this semester:
- The matrix (visual representation of the proposal)
- Preferential treatment of some disciplines
- The Critical-Thinking seminar
We need not address all of these at once or in the same venues. The matrix, for example, can probably wait until the end. In the meantime, we will go forward with meetings with clusters of departments and programs and combine the first and second possibilities identified at our previous meeting for what to take to them.
We will begin with the social sciences. The group discussed some particular issues to bring to that conversation in terms of how we see the social sciences contributing to the new curriculum.
If we will use these meetings during the semester to talk about departmental issues, we thought it best to use the GenEd lunches to discussion issues that cut across all departments and programs. First up for September 24th is a discussion about the Critical-Thinking Seminar.
We will continue our conversation about this at our next meeting.
