February 12, 2009 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting

Present: Chris Cobb, Janet Fore, Joe Incandela, Nancy Nekvasil, Daniel Party, Charlie Peltier

We began by discussing the GenEd Committee membership. We also talked about meeting times and decided that the best time for us to meet is on Thursdays.

Those from the GenEd Committee who attended the meeting with WOST reported on that session. We talked about taking the WOST outcomes (which were sent to us by Jennifer Zachman) and identifying the ones that are most suitable to Gen Ed.

Those who attended the Assessment meeting discussed that meeting and talked about the teaching goals inventory that was used.

Joe talked about his report to the Academic Affairs Council regarding taking the GenEd plan to Faculty Assembly in order to gain an endorsement for the design as it was presented on Faculty Development Day. The members of the Academic Affairs Council thought this was a good idea.

The GenEd lunch is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23. The “work of the lunch” will be an open discussion of the GenEd design and will include a brief summary of how we got to where we are. We will also present a draft of the resolution for Faculty Assembly at the lunch so elements of the design can be discussed. It will possibly be held in Vander Vennet.

Joe presented a draft resolution for the Faculty Assembly meeting to be held on March 4. We decided to change the word “foundation” to “framework” and change the work “reform” to “program”. The new resolution reads: The Faculty Assembly endorses this design as the framework for a new General Education program at Saint Mary's College.
