February 19, 2009 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting
Present: Chris Cobb, Janet Fore, Joe Incandela, Daniel Party, Charlie Peltier
The group heartily congratulated Janet on Tenure.
Approval of notes from Nancy from last meeting.
Joe spoke to the Trustees’ Education Committee and presented the diagram. Responses were: “Spectacular!” and applause broke out.
Attached to the agenda:
Gen Ed Lunch:
Joe will do the same brief presentation as Faculty Development and then throw it open for discussion with Gen Ed Cte as panel. This will give faculty who missed the FDD in Jan. a chance to see and discuss the diagram/framework before the Resolution is presented to Faculty Assembly, March 4. No suggested changes that came out of the FDD will be in the diagram as presented.
Joe spoke to Marc Belanger who will send out an email with reminder of luncheon and act as message from Executive Committee in going forward with the Resolution as,
“The Faculty Assembly endorses the design presented at the January 9th Faculty Development Day as the framework for a new General Education program at Saint Mary’s College”
NO MEETING Thurs 2/26. Next Assessment lunch 3/5, Next Gen Ed meeting, 3/3, probably in library.
The Center of the Cross:
What the center represents – for some there is the assumption that the center is “Core” not “Crossings” It’s still not clear how to represent this area, or how to name it.
Continued discussion of the WOST proposal—Could it be called “Women & Justice” thereby including LO3 and put it in the center? How many current WOST courses would not qualify for “Women & Justice”? Based on goals for WOST minor, of Knowledge & Understanding, about half would be congruent with W&J designation.
