Joe shared a paper, “General Education Courses and the Promotion of Essential Learning Outcomes,” that Patricia Fleming gave him. We amended the minutes of the August 1st meeting and approved them as amended.

The remainder of the meeting revolved around the Faculty Development Day on August 23. Joe will put out a “hold the date” email immediately. Patricia Fleming is willing to do some opening remarks for the day’s activities. We discussed what we hope to accomplish at the FDD and developed a visual that will help faculty to see the need for outcomes for a liberal education.





It is our hope that by the end of the day, faculty will have an understanding of the role of learning outcomes to a liberal education and the fundamental role outcomes have in each of the remaining models. It is our intention to ask faculty to choose one of the models within 2 weeks of beginning classes. That choice will provide the working document for design teams to begin their work. Ad Hoc Committee members will lead the design teams and will coordinate team work via the committee. The committee will meet again on August 8 to finalize plans for the FDD.
