Joe’s announcements:

1. Survey is up and will remain open until Monday, Sept. 24.
   
2. Lee Knefelcamp won’t be able to give keynote address for Jan. FDD.
   
3. It would be a good idea to apply to a Peer Consultation Fund of ACE (for either a speaker, a consultant or a team to present about internationalization of the curriculum).
   
4. Joe met with Kelly Payne (SAC chair). There’s interest in having us visit SAC or a different student forum in the future.
   

The core of the meeting was spent planning the GenEd Lunch of Wednesday, Sep 26. At the GenEd lunch we will first present the results of the selection of preference between models B and C.

The rest of the lunch will be used to inform on and discuss the structural aspect of Design Teams (DT). DT will first work on revising and suggesting changes to the Goals and Outcomes section (“the 1st page”) of the selected working document. The committee will actually make the changes based on DT’s suggestions. An ideal timeline would be for DT to be done with their revisions of Goals and Outcomes by the 2nd GenEd Lunch (October). Then, by January the DT should have a revised version of the rest of the working document as it pertains to Phase I. Spring semester moves to Phase II and will work on specific requirements.

We will discuss what the design teams will do, advise about how they will do their business, explain the process and the selection process and how we will put them together. We will select the teams—we want people who are interested in the topic, not representative, but there are demographics that are important—area (science, soc sciences, etc.), length of service, gender, but we want teams that are small enough to work. We need to remind them that there will be a Phase 2 with even more teams. They will be working from information we have from the spring, from discussion at this lunch, and from the faculty development day.

Regarding “interest” teams: we could propose 3-4 broader DT and open it for faculty to propose additional design teams on more specific topics, such as Catholicity, Leadership. The committee will look at the forms in the “other” category. Those teams will work and bring proposals to the committee. The committee should read the “other” category in the statements of interest for substantive numbers of interest in a topic before we set one up.

Joe will send an email out abut the Gen Ed lunch to prepare faculty.
