September 24, 2007 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting
Present: Chris Cobb, Kitty Green, Joe Incandela, Nancy Nekvasil, Daniel Party, Charlie Peltier, Patti Sayre
Minutes were approved with corrections for the previous three meetings.
The Committee discussed the results of the Model Preference Survey. The closeness of the vote requires a rethinking of Wednesday’s General Education Lunch. Simply put, we are not ready to move to the Design Team phase. The two models will first need to be combined or hybridized before we can reasonably expect others to take over the work of refinement. The Committee discussed ways to do that, especially as it pertains to the plan for Wednesday. In the end, it was concluded that the best use we can make of Wednesday’s lunch is to highlight the differences between Model B and Model C. These differences lead to the following choices:
- Should there be a knowledge outcome?
- Should integration be a top-level outcome or considered as part of intellectual skills?
- Is conceptual neatness a value?
- Should there be a responsibility outcome?
- Should the traditional area distributions within the models be retained or reconfigured?
We talked about how best to receive our colleagues’ input in light of these five questions. It was clear that another meeting was needed to sort this through, and so the Committee will next meet on Tuesday, September 25th at 12:15.
