December 3, 2007 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting
Present: Chris Cobb, Janet Fore, Joe Incandela, Nancy Nekvasil, Daniel Party, Charlie Peltier, Patti Sayre
- The committee discussed how best to communicate the results of last week’s Gen Ed lunch and revisions suggested. Shall we ask for continued suggestions, by what date? Joe will send a re-cap of our intentions at the lunch and the results of the “non-binding personal preference” to each of the outcomes.
- Scott Evenbeck from IUPUI will be meeting with the committee on 12/13/07, 9-1, in the President’s Conference room. The committee discussed how best to use his time. We want to (a) get his perspective on how best to make use of the outcomes and how to use them to provide an identity for the Gen Ed Program; (b) how to best use his help at the January Faculty Development Day; and (c) what we might be missing in the outcomes and how to progress to structures.
- Planning for the January Faculty Development Day followed. One possibility is to ask departments to group together and talk about what courses, types of experiences in the department contribute to the learning outcomes, using the “Cognitive Skills and Communicative Abilities” outcomes as a focus.
- What is our estimated timetable for what we would like to accomplish by the end of this academic year?
- If we project to implementation in Fall 2010, 09/10 to study implementation, 08/09 to get formal approval of program, then during Spring 2008, we need to charge design teams to create a proposed structure. Perhaps have a draft of a proposal by mid-semester and reporting out to the larger faculty at some/various points in the semester.
