Minutes of the December 10 meeting were approved.

We discussed whether to propose that the Learning Outcomes for General Education become those for Liberation Education this Friday at the Faculty Development Day. There were concerns about opening discussions that would derail our work for the day. We recognize that at some point we will need to talk about how learning outcomes for Liberal Education are broader than for General Education, but there is certainly overlap. We won’t be ready to vote on that on the 23rd. We will make mention but it was not felt prudent to present this as a decision for the day.

Much of the rest of the meeting was spent in line-by-line revision of the “Purpose, Goals and Outcomes” document. Joe will send out a revised document.

We then discussed the plan for Friday and the agenda for the Faculty Development Day. What we do on Friday will depend on our timeline for the rest of the semester.

Tentatively:

9-10:45 Discussion of the learning Outcomes document using clickers, point-by-point. This will be a continuation of what we did at the last lunch.

11-12:15 Have Scott talk about IUPUI’s work from outcomes (or principles) to building a program/structure, the time it took, what that means and how it might look at Saint Mary’s.

Lunch

1:30-3? 4? Discussion tables as a beginning discussion of structure, beginning with Outcome 3. This will be a first step and feed into Design Teams, beginning with Outcome 3. The Design Teams will develop a proposal for what courses, activities, structures, requirements will be included to achieve the outcomes.

Joe will look through the list where people stated their Design Team preferences for potential members. We may start with 2 contacted co-chairs from that list, plus 2 committee members, and then add volunteers (if possible) from the FDD.

Potential timeline:

• Design Team for Outcome 3 will work January and February and have a document to present by Break.
  
• The proposal will be handed to Design Team for Outcome 2 who will work from Break to the end of the Semester and have a document to hand to the
  Design Team for Outcome 1 which will work through the summer.
