September 1, 2009 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting
Present: Chris Cobb, Janet Fore, Kitty Green, Joe Incandela, Michael Kramer, Charlie Peltier, Nancy Nekvasil, Laurel Thomas
Conflicts are making it difficult to find more than an hour for weekly meetings. Next meeting will be Tuesday, 9/8, 2-3 p.m. Library Conference Room.
Joe presented two items for consideration that came out of a recent meeting with the Dean.
Faculty Development day follow up. By the end of the day, we have clearly several areas for next steps: Critical Thinking Seminar; Integration; Governance and Skills Sub-outcomes creation.
There was agreement that “skills” should come next with development of sub-outcomes and attaching them to appropriate slots.
First GenEd lunch, September 23rd. If we can proceed expeditiously, we want to have skills that fit with the Critical Thinking Seminar ready for some discussion.

- On reviewing the Faculty Governance Manual, the authority and responsibility for review and approval of changes in the college curriculum resides with the Board of Trustees. This would, of course, include the General Education Program. This has an impact on the timeline for approval in this academic year since the last Board business meeting is in April. There are also questions as to the parliamentary path it would take to be presented for approval by the Board.
- The Dean still has concerns about the absence of a dimension of “women” clearly represented in the design. It seems that a dedicated “slot” for women as a course is not going to work.
