- Minor corrections were made to the minutes of last meeting, and a couple responses that came in to the email announcement of committee replacements for next year were reviewed. In addition, there was discussion of responses that have come in regarding issues raised at the last Gen Ed Lunch.
One of the key issues was whether the new Gen Ed Committee really should be different from the current Curriculum committee, and whether every new course in Gen Ed would need to go through both committees, if the committees were in fact different. One model is to look at the new Gen Ed committee not as an approval committee duplicating Curriculum, but as a proposing and recruiting committee—there being directors rather like those for the W program, who are responsible for making proposals to the Curriculum committee for final approval. - Learning outcomes prepared last summer need to be revised, paired down, etc. There is now a draft of learning outcomes for various study abroad programs.
- Having come to some preliminary conclusions about the number of L03 courses that will be required in the last meeting, we turned to the LO3 outcomes and considered how to begin revising them, considering the particular places where experiential learning seems to play a role so as to help in figuring out how to work an experiential learning requirement into the Gen Ed curriculum.
