June 17, 2009 Ad Hoc Committee Meeting

Present: Chris Cobb, Patricia Fleming, Janet Fore, Joe Incandela, Michael Kramer, Charlie Peltier, Laurel Thomas

Minutes from the June 9 meeting were approved without changes.
Joe Incandela gave the committee an update on the discussion of the governance of the new general education program scheduled to take place this summer.
The committee agreed to add two extra meetings to hasten the process of composing learning outcomes for the Cultures & Systems and the Traditions & Worldviews sections of the gened program. The meeting times were scheduled for 12:30 pm on Thursday, June 18 and 9:00 am on Monday, June 22. Members of the committee may attend one or the other of the meetings, depending upon their schedules and interests.
Patricia Fleming circulated a draft charge to a working group on experiential education at Saint Mary’s. The working group would be charged primarily with creating a definition of academic experiential education for the College.
The committee revised the outcomes drafted at the previous meeting for the Professional Arts slot. The revised outcomes are
- A Saint Mary’s student will be able to investigate issues of policy or systems through the lens of a professional practitioner.
- A Saint Mary’s student will be able to apply knowledge of a profession in her decision-making.
