There were some useful responses to the questions at the lunch, which will be kept and used in further discussion. There were also some negative responses to the process and current status of the discussion.

We discussed where to go and what to do next, given the response from the survey and from the General Education lunch.

The main question seems to be: is there a need to step back from consideration of the models to focus on developing a set of goals and learning outcomes to drive the decision and planning?

The discussion covered concerns about losing momentum, about perceptions or reality of being stalled or of moving too hastily.

There was considerable discussion about what we need in terms of learning outcomes for the General Education program.

Consensus was not reached – but there seemed to be agreement that we need to pause in development of the models (but not abandon them) to develop a single set of goals and learning outcomes, in consultation with the faculty at large, that could be used to guide the development of a single model.

Meetings in the immediate future – the next to be Monday October 8 – will focus on how to work toward accomplishing this in a reasonable period of time (so the process does not stall) with opportunities for broad faculty input.
