Minutes from 10/8/07 meeting approved.

Joe met with student groups from Resident Life Assistants, BOG and Student Academic Council. They are forming a student committee related to general education.

Scott Evenbeck said he would be available in December. Patricia has approved funding. What do we want him to do?

Joe, Susan Vanek and Janet will be attending the Learning Communities Conference in Indianapolis, Nov 8 & 9.

The group discussed some differences in what we perceived as next steps and what we are hearing from the Dean about next steps. There were differences of thought about putting away the structures and creating a single page of Purpose, Goals and Outcomes for faculty discussion and “voting.”

Joe would like to see faculty come to agreement on high level learning outcomes without the introductory paragraphs.

Should we cancel Oct 31 Gen Ed lunch or have someone, the Dean, perhaps, talk about a theoretical approach to goals and learning outcomes? It appears Patricia is not ready to step in at this moment.

Should we simply work on the one document and aim for the Nov 28 lunch?

We are moving toward a vote on a document and we need to think about how we talk to people before the vote, knowing that when we approve something we are each committing to support.

Kitty will work on a fused first page with Purpose, Goals, Outcomes.

Next meeting, Mon, Oct 15, 4:15. We will cancel the Oct 31 Gen Ed lunch and will have a meeting of the group in place of the Gen Ed lunch. Joe will let us know about place.
